SEWING CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS AND INTERMEDIATES

We’re here to have fun and make things.

Sewing classes & workshops around Hamilton, ON and the GTA teaching sewing fundamentals and garment-making basics so you leave with the skills, confidence, and curiosity needed to bring your dream makes to life.

We just want you to catch the sewing bug

Our goal

We're not here to turn everyone into expert sewists. Our job is to show you that sewing belongs to everyone.

Think of SEWSEW as your gateway into the world of making.

Is sewing a useful thing to know?

Is it ever. Whether you have dreams of sewing your dream wardrobe (it can be done, we’re proof of it), being a participant in the practice of slow fashion, wanting to nail the basics so you can explore mending and upcycling, hoping to level-up your handmade gift giving game, or just want to learn a practical skill that will come in handy you for the rest of your life, you are welcome here.

We teach you the fundamentals. The rest is up to you.

WHO WE ARE

oUR STORY

Bonded over a shared love of sewing magic (our favourite topic, ask us about it), identical taste in music, and the ethos behind the slow practice of sewing that’s so deep it sometimes makes them cry. Between them they have taught hundreds of students, young and old, how to sew.

Each have had their unique path to sewing that led to SEWSEW.

4 guiding principles

Our four guiding principles for anyone participating in a class or workshop.

  • 01. Sewing belongs to everyone

No gatekeeping. It’s for you, the very person reading this right now.

  • 02. Accept that you're learning

You’re learning something for the first time, so act like it! (ask stupid questions, leave perfectionism at the door, be proud of trying to begin with)

  • 03. Slow down

    We’re begging you.

  • 04. Sewing is a practice

So we practice, practice, practice. You are going to get so many things wrong. Congratulations! Mistakes are our biggest teachers.
